Energy efficiency and sustainability are currently key challenges for food retail and the HORECA sector. With rising energy costs, operating separate equipment to keep food hot and cold in the same store can take a significant toll on the operational budget. The challenge is clear: how can we reduce consumption without compromising food quality, safety, and presentation?
At JORDÃO, we have transformed a natural side-effect of refrigeration into a technological innovation. On plug-in refrigerated displays, the condensing unit generates waste heat that ends up being wasted and released into the store. We decided to change this paradigm by repurposing this energy to create a much smarter thermal ecosystem.
To ensure this efficiency, we have developed the innovative Heat Recovery System, integrated into our Combo Bi-Temperature Displays (hot and cold), designed to protect the environment and your budget.

The condensing unit recovers the waste heat that is naturally generated during the refrigeration cycle. This thermal energy is then transferred directly into the hot-holding compartment. By repurposing this heat, the system maintains the required hot food temperature at a significantly reduced energy cost.
In the case of the FUTURO 2 hot/cold vertical display, this system can hold warm food up to 45 °C at zero euros. An auxiliary heating system automatically activates to reach 60 to 65 °C if required, ensuring total flexibility for different types of food with maximum efficiency.

In addition to drastically reducing the equipment's energy consumption, this technology creates a virtuous cycle throughout the commercial environment. By directing the heat into the hot-holding compartment, less heat is released into the store. In practice, this means your air conditioning system will not have to work in overload, helping to reduce store climatisation costs. By choosing JORDÃO's bi-temperature displays, you are investing in cutting-edge engineering that highlights your products, improves your store's comfort, and clearly boosts your business's profitability.
1. How does this system reduce my electricity costs?
By using the waste heat (naturally produced by the refrigeration motor) to warm the hot-holding section, it eliminates the need to continuously use electrical heating elements to keep food hot, translating into massive energy savings.
2. What temperature can I reach at "zero euros"?
Depending on the equipment, such as our FUTURO 2 model, the system can retain enough heat to maintain the hot-holding compartment up to 45 °C at no extra cost. It only activates an auxiliary system if you need to reach higher temperatures, between 60 and 65 °C.
3. Does heat recovery affect refrigeration performance?
Not at all. The cooling cycle maintains its peak performance and stability. The system only acts by redirecting the heat that is extracted during refrigeration, which, in standard displays, would simply be released into the store as waste.
4. What is the impact on my store's climatisation?
Highly positive. Because the dissipated heat is retained within the display's hot section, much less heat is released into the store aisles. This significantly reduces the thermal load on the space's air conditioning, lowering your overall climatisation bill.
