JORDAO and Awarded Oiá Plast to create a new decorative material based on 100% recycled and 100% recyclable material.
Aiming for more responsible activity, to strengthen its commitment to innovation and sustainability, JORDAO has partnered with the Awarded Oiá Plast to develop a new decorative material based on 100% recycled & 100% recyclable material.
Oiá (or 'Look', in English) emerged in 2019 on the island of São Vicente, Cape Verde, thanks to the efforts of product designer Isabel Bourbon and handyman Patrick Barbosa. The idyllic landscapes invaded by plastics coming from all over the World was the catalyst that drove them to take action.
In their artisanal workshop, they receive post-consumer plastics brought in by the community and brainstorm new forms and uses for the waste. They see plastic as a unique material and harness its characteristics to develop distinctive and irreverent pieces with bold colours, shapes and textures while seriously fighting for the environment, the oceans and biodiversity.
Recently, Oiá was recognized with the 1st place in the 'Faz pelo Planeta' 2023 Prize promoted by Electrão, the largest waste management entity operating in Portugal for electric and electronic equipment, batteries and accumulators, as well as waste packaging. The distinction rewards agents of change who make a difference in the protection of the environment.
This project is an excellent example of the impact JORDAO wants to have in the World.
